Eyelid correction is the fourth most popular choice of all cosmetic surgeries, following liposuction, breast enlargement and rhinoplasty. Hanging eyelids or bags under the eyes are not only unattractive, they can also be a very irritating problem.
We distinguish between upper eyelid correction and lower eyelid correction.
With an eye lift or upper eyelid surgery, excess skin in the upper eyelid is surgically removed to re-tighten drooping lids. With lower lid correction, we rectify eye bags by removing excess fat and incorporating a suspension technique (canthopexy) that brings the corner of the eye back to normal height.
Our surgeons will gladly inform you about the range of options based on your unique situation. Make an appointment today and find out whether an eyelid correction is the right solution for you.
What is a blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is the medical term for an eyelid correction. This term encompasses all medical procedures for the correction of defects, deformities or abnormalities of the eyelids. The word blepharoplasty originated in ancient Greece. ‘Blepharon’ means ‘eyelid’. ‘Plastikos’ means ‘to reshape’. Today, we prefer to use the term eyelid correction.
When should you consider blepharoplasty?
Eyelid corrections are performed for both medical and aesthetic reasons. Causes are on the whole genetic and in combination with aging.
Aging lowers the elasticity of the skin around the eyes. This causes the skin to hang (upper eyelid correction) or deposits small bags of fatty tissue under the eye (lower eyelid correction).
In both cases, an eyelid correction can bring much comfort.
